Pink-headed Duck

Last seen 1949, Myanmar. Males have a deep pink head and neck, giving the species its name, and the eggs are spherical – a highly unusual feature among birds. Reports of sightings in 2006 raise the possibility that this species survives. Surveys are needed in the remote wetlands of northern Myanmar to confirm its continued survival and to capture the first photos of a live bird. Planning is underway for an expedition in late 2017
